Observations on the Presence of Rheumatoid Serum Factor in Skin and Other Tissues.

چکیده
It has been known for some time that there is an association between rheumatoid serum factor and rheumatoid subcutaneous nodules (Ball, 1950). This suggests that serum factor may be produced in areas of tissue damage, or perhaps be concentrated there. In either case, serum factor might be extractable in greater amounts from the nodules than from either the healthy tissues of the same subject or the non-rheumatoid tissues. This line of reasoning, which initiated the experiments described below, takes no account of immunofluorescent microscopic studies of the localization of rheumatoid factor because most of the experiments were carried out before those studies had been reported. Immunofluorescent microscopy shows that, in the subcutaneous nodules, synovial membranes, and lymph nodes of rheumatoid subjects, serum factor occurs almost exclusively in plasma cells; and it has been suggested that serum factor is synthesized by these cells (Mellors, Heimer, Corcos, and Korngold, 1959; Mellors, Nowoslawski, and Korngold, 1961). The experiments reported here, concerned as they are with the extraction of serum factor from various tissues, constitute a different approach to this problem of the source of rheumatoid serum factor; the findings indicate that skin contains significant amounts of serum factor and might be an additional site of synthesis of this protein.

Detection of Rheumatoid Factors in Sera and Biopsy Lesions of Vitiligo Patients
Background: Vitiligo is a dermatological disorder of unknown etiology with a common incidence in southern Iran. Presence of autoantibodies to melanocyte antigens suggested an autoimmune basis of the disease. Objective: In this study, the presence of rheumatoid factor (RF) in sera and skin biopsies of vitiligo patients was investigated. Methods: The presence of RF in sera of 35 vitiligo and 32 n...

The crow-fukas, Takatsuki or POEMS syndrome (The acronym of Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, endocrinopathy, M component and skin changes), a rare, multisystem disorder associated with osteosclerotic myeloma, is characterize by the combination of plasma cell discrasia with polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal(M) protein, skin changes, as well as various other sign, such...
متن کاملComparative Measurement of Rheumatoid Factor in Serum and Synovial Fluid of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients by ELISA and Latex-Agglutination Test
Rheumatoid factors (RF) are autoantibodies with specificity for the Fc portion of human IgG. Production of RF is a characteristic feature of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and is detectable in high titer in about 90% of these patients. In this study, we measured total IgM, IgA, IgMRF and IgARF in serum and synovial fluid of 45 RA patients by ELISA and the results were compared with those obtained b...
متن کاملDifferential Expression of Rheumatoid Factor-Associated Cross-Reactive Idiotypes in Iranian Seropositive and Seronegative Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
High levels of rheumatoid factors (RF) are detectable in serum of the majority of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but 5-10% of patients remain seronegative (SN). Despite clinical and genetic similarities between these two subsets of RA, it has been proposed that they may be regarded as distinct clinical entities. Methods: In the present study a panel of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) rec...

Background: Immunopathological and inflammatory processes play important roles in the initiation and development of Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD). Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the serum levels of several autoantibodies including rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA), anti-small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (anti-Sm), anti-phosphatidylserine (anti-PS) and anti-car...
